Hafeez Criticizes Pakistan After T20I Loss to South Africa

Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez criticised the national team after a 55-run defeat to South Africa in Rawalpindi. He said the problem was not the pitch but Pakistan’s standard of cricket. Hafeez compared the sides sharply, suggesting Pakistan lacked consistency and execution. On X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “Nothing wrong with Pindi pitch, but the obvious difference is the standard of cricket. #PAKvSA.” His comments highlighted concerns about Pakistan’s preparation and performance under pressure.
South Africa dominated the opening T20I in all departments, led by a strong batting display. Reeza Hendricks scored 60 runs from 40 balls, hitting five boundaries and a six. Tony de Zorzi and Quinton de Kock added quick runs at the top. The visitors posted a challenging total of 194 for 7 in their 20 overs. Pakistan’s bowlers struggled to contain the visitors despite some early breakthroughs.
Mohammad Nawaz was the standout bowler for Pakistan, claiming three wickets for 26 runs. Saim Ayub also contributed with two wickets. Despite their efforts, the team could not restrict South Africa’s scoring in crucial overs. The visitors’ bowlers maintained pressure throughout, ensuring Pakistan struggled from the start. The difference in execution and temperament was evident on the field.
Pakistan’s batting collapsed in response, never recovering from early setbacks. Saim Ayub top-scored with 37 runs from 28 balls, including four sixes. Mohammad Nawaz offered late resistance, scoring 36 from 20 balls. Babar Azam’s comeback ended quickly as he fell for a second-ball duck to Corbin Bosch. Wickets fell regularly, and the team failed to build partnerships, leaving them well short of the target.
Corbin Bosch starred with the ball, taking four wickets for 24 runs. George Linde and Williams added three and two wickets respectively. Their disciplined bowling sealed South Africa’s commanding 55-run victory. With this win, the visitors lead the T20I series 1-0. Pakistan must improve execution and consistency before the next match at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, on October 31.
